Traffic-Related Deaths Have Climbed in Recent Years, Affecting the Safety of the Orange County Community.
Between 2010 and 2014, deaths involving bicyclists alone soared by 16%. California won the dubious honor of being the most dangerous state in the nation for cyclists.
The trend holds true on a local level in Orange County, with police stating that additional deaths have been caused by distracted drivers texting on cell phones.
To combat this trend, the Santa Ana Police Department received a $343,480 grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety.
In my experience, a lot of the drivers who cause these types of accidents don’t have insurance, or only carry the minimal California $15,000 policy. If you are injured while on footor on a bike, this amount often won’t come close to covering the cost of your hospital visit.
The lawyers at RMD Law LLP recommend that you talk to your own insurance company about purchasing “uninsured motorist” coverage. With this type of policy, even if you are injured by a driver without insurance, you can still have your medical expenses and pain and suffering covered.
If you can afford it, you should buy at least $100,000 in coverage, and more than that if possible. A good Orange County personal injury lawyer can help you maximize your recovery if you have been hurt in an accident. Call us at (949) 326-5000 for your free consultation.
